The orchid flora of Vietnam is the richest among all other regional floras of mainland Asia. Successive inventories show an increasing orchid number from 411 species (in the year 1934), 718 spp. (1992-1994), 897 spp. (2003–2005), 1005 spp. (2009) and 1090 species & 160 genera figured in 2011. Since this last inventory, 93 species and 8 genera have been newly discovered and documented in Vietnam (Nguyen T.T., Schuiteman, Vermeulen 2010, Averyanov 2012a, b, 2013, Averyanov, Duy N.V., Phan K.L. 2012, Averyanov et al. 2012, 2013, 2015a, b, c, Choudhary et al. 2013, Schuiteman, Averyanov, Rybkova 2013, Kumar et al. 2014, Nuraliev et al. 2014, Averyanov, Nguyen T.T, Nguyen V.C. 2015, Averyanov, Truong B.V. 2015, Duy N.V., Averyanov 2015, Nuraliev et al. 2015). When the new data presented in this report were included, the known orchid flora of Vietnam comprised at least 1183 documented species from 167 genera. The present report summarizes published and new original data on Vietnamese orchids since the last inventory (Averyanov 2011). It provides new original illustrated information on all genera (Abdominea J.J.Sm., Brachypeza Garay, Cephalanthera Rich., Cordiglottis J.J.Sm., Drymoda Lindl., Grammatophyllum Blume, Macropodanthus L.O.Williams and Octarrhena Thwaites) and species newly discovered in Vietnam for the period 2011-2015. Thirty eight species for this period were described in Vietnam as new for science from such genera as Bulbophyllum Thouars, Cheirostylis Blume, Cleisostoma Blume, Cymbidium Sw., Dendrobium Sw., Eria Lindl., Flickingeria A.D.Hawkes, Liparis Rich., Luisia Gaudich., Malaxis Sol. ex Sw., Miguelia Aver., Oberonia Lindl., Odontochilus Blume, Porpax Lindl., Sarcoglyphis Garay, Schoenorchis Blume, Taeniophyllum Blume, Tainia Blume, Trichoglottis Blume, Vanda Jones ex R.Br., Vanilla Mill. and Vietorchis Aver. &. Averyanova. Illustrated data on distribution, ecology and IUCN Red List status are provided for each discovered species.
