At least 22 species of Camellia L. (Theaceae) in southern Vietnam were described as new to science between 2010 and 2015, making this region a new center of Camellia diversity with a total of 36 species reported. Our on-going study within a NAFOSTED-funded project (no. 106-NN.03-2013.65) continues, discovering additional new species but was not able to relocate many ones reported long before. Besides an updated checklist of the genus in southern Vietnam, our initial work on their palynological characteristics will also be presented. The results indicate a need to extend the research to adjacent areas of Cambodia and Laos.
