There are ca. 275 species of Desmodium Desv. which are distributed in warm temperate North America to subtropical South America, Africa-Madagascar, China to temperate East Asia, tropical Southeast Asia and Australia. Our study of this genus in Thailand was based on herbarium specimens, field surveys and literature. Twenty five species (31 taxa), four introduced species and three unidentified taxa were enumerated. Two species, D. hayatae H. Ohashi and D. siamense (Schindl.) Craib are endemic. A manuscript for the Flora of Thailand is in preparation. Anatomical, pollen morphological and molecular studies are still needed.
